20 in 20

Today is the day! I am now officially 20 years-old. CAN I GET A HALLELUJAH?!?!! I thought about how I would go about writing this post for a while, and I decided that I would write 20 lessons I learned in my 20 years of life on our beautiful earth. Prepare to laugh, cry, and maybe feel uncomfortable. Here it goes in no particular order:

1. Love yourself

2. Drink coffee every day

3. Don't make eye contact with strangers in the elevator (things get awkward)

4. Dance it out. Whatever it is.

5. Naps are good

6. Thank your parents! (Thanks mum & pop)

8. Not all people are nice

9. Your sibling is your best friend (S/O to my sis Kristen! I love ya!)

10. When in doubt, watch Gilmore Girls

11. Reading is fun

12. Pets are a necessity

13. Wear more black

14. Do what you're passionate about

15. Shoes CAN be both cute and comfy (this also applies to clothes)

16. Don't settle

17. Everybody poops

18. It's okay to ask for help

19. Cats are tiny bed warmers you get to snuggle with (SCORE!)

20. Crafting is the best therapy (well, crafting & ice cream)

Well there you have it! 20 years of wisdom at you're fingertips. Time to go live up my first day as a twenty-something!

Special thanks to my pretty rad bf Kainen for making my birthday special!

Netflix and Me:: a love story (part two)

Well here it is, as promised- the second half of my top ten favorite shows on Netflix! I hope you spend the next several months of your life watching these great shows along with the ones featured in last week's post! I promise you will not be disappointed!

1. American Horror Story
If you want to watch a show unlike any other, this is the show for you! It's definitely one of my top three favorite shows of all time. (Season 3 is my personal favorite)

2. The Killing
Once you start this show you will be hooked! You watch as two homocide detectives solve the murder of a young girl, and that's only the first two seasons! Three and four aren't connected, but one and two are a must watch for sure!!!

3. Gossip Girl
This show isn't for everybody, but it sure is for me! I'm currently on season 4, and I'm loving it. There's so much gossip, fashion, and drama!!

4. Arrested Development
This show is hilarious. That's all you really need to know. Watch it and get in your ab workout for the day!

5. Dexter
Like The Killing, Dexter will also have you hooked! I have yet to finish the series because I've heard the last two seasons aren't that great, but I plan to watch them at some point! Dexter is a great show because you get so caught up in the story. Good stuff, people.

Well there you have it! My (current) complete list of my top 10 favorite shows on Netflix! I hope you saw something that caught your eye to watch!

Cheers & Happy Netflixing!

Music Monday

Okay, so I love love love music (specifically alternative music). I've decided to start a Music Monday series in which I will share 10 tracks I love in each Music Monday post! I am a firm believer in sharing music and urging others to listen to artists I like (I want my favorite bands to be successful so they can continue making beautiful music for me to enjoy), so please take some time out of your day to sit back and listen to these rad jams.

1. Electric Love- B├śRNS
If you want to let loose and dance, this is your song. It's upbeat and so much fun to jump around and dance with your cat to. (Luna loves to dance with me)

2. Brooklyn Girls- Catey Shaw
This song is so much fun. Put on your favorite pair of sunnies, jump in the car, and blare this song with your windows down. I promise you won't regret it!

3. I Can Wait And You Begin- Modern Friend
This band local to Kansas City and they are AMAZING. They have a super cool 1975-esque vibe that just makes you want to dance. These guys will be making it big very soon.

4. Hand In My Pocket- Alanis Morissette
This song is a classic. It will make you feel super hip and want to yell "GIRL POWER" for the whole world to hear.

5. Maybe- Birdy
This song is a bit slower than the rest, but still has a great beat to sing along to. Also, Birdy has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard so there's also that.

6. Where Does the Good Go- Tegan and Sara
[FUN FACT] The first time I heard this song was on Grey's Anatomy~ Christina and Meredith had a dance party, and this song was playing in the background. It was so good that I got up and joined them.

7. Beware the Dog- The Griswolds
This song is great because it's so upbeat and the lyrics are the literal opposite. Once you learn it you can't help but sing it at the top of your lungs. (don't listen to this song if you are easily offended by cussing. Sorry mom, it's just such a good song)

8. Say It Ain't So- Weezer
Again, this is a classic. You can try and not sing along, but once the chorus starts the game is over.

9. My Song 5- HAIM
These sisters are the epitome of cool~ it literally radiates off of them. Their music is alternative in the best way possible with a hint of 80's pop. Magical, really.

10. Crystallized- Young the Giant
This song starts out with a super awesome howl. If you add a howl to a song it gets instantly 10x better in my book. (She Wolf by Shakira is the prime example of this)

I hope I maybe listed some songs you've never heard before so that you can go listen and fall in love! Now go have a dance party and burn hundreds of calories (because that's the only way to dance).

Netflix and Me:: a love story

Wow wow wow do I have a treat for you today!!! I will be sharing my top 10 list of Netflix favorites (only 5 today though, the rest will be posted next Wednesday, so be on the lookout). Netflix has been one of my best friends in college. We've laughed, cried, gotten outrageously angry, and eaten lots of Ben & Jerry's together (I recommend Half Baked Froyo~ all the deliciousness minus the guilt!! Score!!). It has helped my sister and I bond from two states apart (miss ya, sis), and it's given my boyfriend and I countless hours of (practically) free entertainment! Basically Netflix is great and we should all thank Jesus for giving us such a beautiful gift.

I spend a lot of time watching Netflix, so it was difficult to narrow down my top 10 favorite shows/movies. I decided to split this list into two parts because I'm kind of crunched on time.. I have Netflix to watch, of course. So without further ado, here is part 1 of my top 10 Netflix favorites!!

1. Gilmore Girls
This show is great for any occasion. Are you hosting a party? Watch Gilmore Girls. Did you have a bad day? Watch Gilmore Girls. Are you on a first date? There's no better way to impress your hottie than with a few episodes of Gilmore Girls!!

2. Parks & Recreation
WARNING: you will become emotionally attached to this show and be extremely depressed when you watch the series finale. Tears will be shed, but the journey is well worth it. Leslie Knope, I love you.

3. Switched at Birth
Okay, I know ABC Family shows are cheesy and stuff but this one is SOOO good. It's full of drama, love, comedy, and you even learn some sign language along the way (which is super cool).

4. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
This show is both hilarious and inspiring. It's also only one season and episodes are roughly 20 minutes long, so take a day to treat yourself and binge watch this show.

5. Cupcake Wars
Cupcakes. *drops mic*

Well there you have it!! I've got some Netflix to watch. I'm currently watching Gosspi Girl~ SO MUCH GOSSIP!!! Seriously, it's a great show. Check in next week to see if it makes it on to part 2 of my top 10 list!!

Brooke Nicole

Brace yourselves! I believe it's time to re-introduce myself to the world of blogging!! I've decided to start fresh with a shiny new blog seeing as I am a shiny new Brooke (re-invented, if you will). Lots has happened since I started college a year and a half ago, but I'll save you the boring life story, and condense it into a tiny introduction to yours truly. Here it goes!

Hey there, everybody! As you can see my name is Brooke (middle name Nicole), and I am young, wild & broke. I am a sophomore Apparel Merchandising and Product Development major at the University of Arkansas, and let me tell you, it's SO much fun. I love clothes, music, food, cats, sewing, crafting, and coffee. This blog is dedicated to the things I love and my life as a twenty-something (I turn twenty next Thursday, but it's close enough), so if you have any issues you can take them up with my lawyer! Kidding. I don't have a lawyer. If you have any issues just don't read my blog. It's that simple.

Also, the #1 thing you should know about me is that I am the proud mommy of the cutest 5 month-old kitten to ever live. Her name is Luna, and she is the love of my life. You will see a lot of her, so I will just say you're welcome in advance!
